Natural Gemstones

Forming a natural gemstone takes millions to billions of years. Gemstones that are available now are likely to be the only ones we have in this lifetime.

If gems could speak for themselves, they would undoubtedly tell amazing tales about their origins. Some would begin billions of years ago, deep inside the infant Earth. Others could give eyewitness accounts of continents colliding or prehistoric seas that have long vanished since. In reality gems 'speak' to us only through our knowledge of their history and unique nature.

Different gemstones can be created in laboratories. They are called synthetic gemstones. These manmade gems have the same chemical composition and structure. Although the process only takes months, they are not as valuable as the natural gemstones found in the Earth.

The Earth is similar to a beautiful bride who needs no manmade jewels to heighten her beauty.

Mother Nature has a fixed supply of gemstones in her crust so the natural gemstone become even rarer as time goes on. Consequently, the esteemed value of the natural gemstones goes far beyond what the eyes can see, while their market price also increases with time as more people realize their true worth.

Synthetic and treated stones will never have the same allure and uniqueness  found in the natural gemstones.

What is Spinel?

Spinel is a durable gem for jewelry and has a hardness of 8 in the mohs scale of hardness.

Spinel has been appraised as the coolest of gemstones, suitable candidate for the title of "History's Most Underappreciated Gem"

This is perfect for a centre stone, comes in a variety of colours so there would be no gender boundaries.

Spinel is not as well-known as diamonds, rubies or sapphires.

However famous rubies such as the ‘Black Prince’s Ruby” which sits at the front of the Imperial State Crown of the United Kingdom is indeed a spinel.

Similarly, “The Timur Ruby” the stone given to Queen Victoria in 1851 by the East India Company which is now part of the British Crown Jewels is also a spinel.

Then why wasn’t spinel better known and more highly valued?

The simple answer is that supply was limited.

Spinel used to be mainly a collector's stone due to its limited supply but not anymore. Spinel is August’s newest official birthstone.

Although it is found in some other countries, the two best-known historical sources for spinel are Mogok (Burma) and Sri Lanka.

According to the International gem society, spinel from Mogok (Burma) provenance has a higher value.

We specialise in natural spinel and we are based in London, Bangkok and Mogok.
